Though yeah, a metric ton of cavalry actually isn't such a large number. You could get maybe two horsemen with that. :lol

Also I think you confused the scenario. The tank is armed with a 33mm autocannon and shoots explosive shells. Now, the 33mm shells are barely more powerful than a handgrenade but when an armored machine fires these rapidly then I guess things could change. Anyways, the odds aren't so grim. You just need to employ sufficient number of cavalry.
Even if incapable of breaching the armor, standard human wave tactics should not be underestimated. :lol
