I suppose you'll be making a "battlemage" of some sort, due to the combat magic thingy. If you want, he can also carry swords or other weapons. Being mages doesn't mean that we're limited to just magic. The Prince, for example, will always carry a sword at his side and use strong telepathy and alteration.
