She never had a chance to know her father. Her mother told her of how her father had died trying to keep his family and the village out of slaver hands. Her mother told her of how good the village had been even with the almost constant attacks by Grimn, of how beautiful and freeing it had been for Faunus outside the kingdom. Tierra heard those stories as one heard fairy tales. Really, she wondered what the sun was like, the people were kept underground in the mines they worked in. Non-Faunus out-landers were also brought in to work, but the slavedrivers had the most delight bossing the Fauni around. She had no idea that such things were illegal in Vale, she only knew that she hated it and was not going to die like this, not at least without a fight. She resisted the drivers every time she could, she never cried out when her time at the post came, she sought the best way to escape, testing everything and seeking for weaknesses. She was still there at ten when her mother died. The last tie was severed and Tierra resolved to leave that night. It had to be, she had seen the way that one driver kept looking at her like a wolf seizing up its prey, had heard the rumors of her being moved to his place the following morning, and shuddered to think of what exactly he meant to do with her. So she packed her few possessions, waited till "the dead of night", then made her way carefully in the darkness towards the upper levels and there to freedom. She had just made it to the uppermost level when the one with the wolf stare caught her by the arm. He then started dragging her to his place, for her "special reward" for getting this high. But freedom was so near she could smell it. So she swung her free hand and extended her claws. The hit gouged his shoulder and he let go. Then she just bolted, running faster than she had ever run in her life. To this day, she doesn't know how she got out. All she can remember is the blur of running, the sounds of pursuit, ducking under anyone or anything ahead. But she remembers how it ended, within the woods of Vale, seeing the moon and feeling grass for the first time, and no sound of pursuit or anyone behind her. She was free. She sleep on a tree branch for that night, than woke up in the morning wondering what to do. She had planned only for the escape, not for what would happened afterward. Her stomach started grumbling though so, not knowing what was edible in the forest, she wandered towards the nearby city she saw. She then wandered around the city, taking everything in and wondering what to do when she found the Faunus quarters. There she was received with hospitality by a family of Wolf-Faunus, who took her in and helped her learn the ropes of living in the city once she told them she was an orphan who had lived out in the country, (she wasn't sure if they would have to take her back if she told them where she really came from) and she helped them out doing odd jobs and housework whenever she could as a thank-you. Really, the jobs and housework were heavenly after her years at the mines. But she often thought back to the other people she knew there, wondering how they were doing now, should she alone be free out of so many, and how could she help them escape. The answer to the third came to her at a fair when she was 12. There was an obstacle course that year that would give the first person who went through all ten levels a free scholarship to a pre-Beacon combat school in the city, wasn't as prestigious as Signal but would get a person to Beacon just as well. Everyone was sure Tierra would succeed so the one lien was payed and she was on her way. The first level consisted of rolling boulders, which she dodged, waited for, and dodged some more. The second level had her find the next before the entire room flooded. The third was full of sleeping rattlesnakes which had to be carefully tipped-toed past, though she cheated a bit by using her claws to climb the wall when the snakes were too close together. And on and on it went, each one posing different challenges. Then on the last level, a wolf pack waited, wild and vicious. Tierra flexed her claws and prepared for battle, studying the creatures for exploitable weaknesses. Finally the fight began. They attempted to surround her, but she would just jump right over. Each time they got close, she would jump. And when one rushed her, she would swipe with her claws. And it continued like this until the last wolf was dead, Tierra being on the verge of total exhaustion. But she had won, and the scholarship was hers. And she took it. She could help the family who had helped her by giving them a more stable income once she was a full huntress and as a full huntress, she could go back to the mine and free the others, no matter what the consequences. So she went to the academy, studied hard, and earned the full scholarship to Beacon. Now only four more years until she would be a full huntress, unless the man of her nightmares, the man with a wolfish grin and a gouged shoulder, found her and forced her back. Back to a life of drudgery and horror, a life she would rather die than going back to. [/hider] Personality: Quiet and somber, Tierra prefers to learn about about people through observation rather than questions. She slowly warms up to people, but once she does she will be fiercely loyal. Under her quietness, she hides a curiosity about this world she finds herself in and a fear of letting anything slip about where she came from. She will let her curiosity show though when she thinks she's alone in the forest. Her fear only shows when she wakes up from one of her nightmares and when alone in the dark streets of the city.
