People always hate on over serious and strict kind of characters. Add in the fact she wants to keep most humans at a distance and also because she tried to get in the way of Greg/Rose relationship. It just makes people not want to like her or look over all the love she felt or how much she protects Steven. I think she is actually the most mothering out of all of them. 

I really like Pearl, I just feel sorry for her is all. She lost the one person she loved most and the person that made her feel like she was everything. I can't say that I don't like how things turned out but she got a raw deal.
