"Well Rose," Johnny replied, "when I hit it big out in California you can bet I'd be right back here in this nice town. Tonight I'm just another nobody who needs good drink from a wonderful hostess." Johnny knew he would never 'hit it big' out in California or anywhere else. His actually hopes were that at some point the over abuse of drink will kill him before the law got smart of him, or that he could survive the night wasted and leave in the morning. In a show of good faith, Johnny passed the full bag of cash to Rose with an assured smile on his face. "Let's just call that my tab for the night Rose. I don't plan to leave this seat until somebody rips me out or I fall dead."
