So what the captain is wearing, is what he wears to combat. But the exo suit is there for support, it's basically the equivalent to the Titan, in titanfall. But the exo suit is much less bulky, you can jump in it. And it's built in to your regular armor. So... Basically, you press a button, and it wraps on to you.

As for the crew, I did it so that you would know exactly how much I have to deploy, and I'm not saying I deploy 6,000 infantry, because then I would therefore only have like a couple hundred of crew/engineers/pilots. It's also for myself, so that I know what I have to deploy.
