As she was teaching a few manners to the new guy, the glittery one went nuts. A chunk of diamond nearly missed her. Eyes wide in surprise, it had forced her to lean back. Seriously? First one and now the other? What was this? Attack Anna Day, or something? And just as suddenly as the kid shouted at her, he turned to the only adult and acted as if nothing had happened. Like she was the bad guy or something! 

And that Jack boy. She hated him already. He even called a spiderwoman! Her insane mother flashed in front of her eyes. Every lecture about how evil and how much a monster she was came flooding back. People screaming and blaming her when the crazy woman had been taken away. And how they still screamed at her even when she was alone and hungry and doing anything to survive. She hated them. She hated stupid Jack and stupid Max and every stupid person staring at her stupid six arms. It wasn't like she wanted to be this way! Dammit! All of them could go to hell!

Face red and white eyes threatening tears, her head snapped down at the girl who was holding onto her. It startled her. When was the last time someone had actually touched her? It felt weird, all warm and soft. She sniffed and rubbed one of her hand stubbornly over her eyes. 

This girl was probably right. She was getting too worked up. And over something that shouldn't even bother her in the first place. Anna, looking down at the small redhead, wondered why boys were such jerks. They said such hurtful things like they were nothing and then just walked away. Instead of throwing crystal boy's broken diamond ball back at him, or grabbing that gloomy shadow boy by the collar, Anna stood where she was, sedated with the smallest of things. A thing she had been deprived of since she first summoned her extra arms. Touch.
