Yes, the dome would be heard from behind the island. To them it would sound like a water wave. 
Think about it, the debris hitting it to cause waves. That makes more sense.

It's the fact that i'm tired and the fact i've said the plot was coming and now it's hear and your bent out of shape for "Not knowing it was coming" also by fact you put your character as far as you could get from the plot *Hence Running from plot* 

Also despite the fact it would cause waves, an Explosion....AND Metal Hitting concrete sound nothing like waves crashing against the beach. nothing at all. But ok you can go with waves crashing on the beach makes more sense.
