I would say Ramirez would have been surprised if komodo had suddenly hit retrorockets and came to a full stop, not shot by heavy artillery from someone he was in contact with and put to a halt from kinetic force. He was already establishing a target lock while chasing after in the first place instead of just firing off the gun into Komodos back. 

But lets take the same situation and overlay the two. Komodo got hit and came to a full stop then flew away. If rose got hit and came to a full stop, then he could also fly away. Both would have the same speed from afterburners but rose has the data boost to plot an interception course and reach melee weapons to close the difference.
