He felt the parry travel up his arm, the noise loud and frankly quite cool in the silence of the hallway. The monk was real damn fast, he'd give him that, but no amount of training beat experience in situations like this. His sword was parried away to the right, forward momentum changed into sideways momentum that he used to his advantage. As he let his body twist with the parry, he saw the monk's left fist rocket out from his hip, a lightning fast punch that he needed to counter quick. With his momentum, he had a split second idea. He used his sideways spin to his advantage. In a moment he'd switched the grip on his katana from forehand to backhand. He twisted around clockwise, lowering his body as low as he could go to avoid the straight punch. He felt it whizz over his back as he pivoted on his left foot. Once he made it most of the way around, he held up his sword, blade pointed at the monk's chest. Right hand gripped tightly round the hilt, left hand cupped round the hilt's base for leverage. His left foot was replaced by his right during the spin as he turned to face away from his opponent. Then his left replaced his right again as his right side faced the monk. His right foot took a step forward, inside the monk's guard. The second time of the fight. Then he used the rest of his momentum to shove his blade sideways, using his left hand to push the sword quickly towards the monk, aiming the stab at the middle of his torso.
