As for what Marianne is... not sure if I said this already, but honestly, my best guess is (maybe still) some kind of demon or reaper. Or a mix thereof. I'm not as well-versed in the mythological as I would like to (and probably should) be, and for all I know it could be derived from an anime/other show I haven't seen. Ha.
