Rebecca Callaghan

Eclipse Dorms
Rebecca had returned to the stove when Maxwell came up behind her and spoke. The sudden breath on her neck and ear sent a strange tingle up her spine and she felt her face get a bit hot. She adjusted her glasses and cleared her throat, shaking off his praise. "Oh I'm not really that great a cook. I really just follow the directions in the book." She gestured at the open cookbook laying on the bench, and then thinking she might be sounding ungrateful of his kind words, she quickly followed up with, "Oh, but thank you for saying so." Rebecca switched off the stove and dished the pork stir fry into two small plates before walking over and placing them on the table, along with forks. She then took off her apron before sitting down across from Max. "If...if you don't mind, I could cook like this for you every day. For us, I mean." It still seemed a little unreal to her, that she'd be living with this boy from now on. They'd been matched for a while, but it had always seemed to be a superficial thing. Now it felt suddenly serious. Rebecca didn't think of herself as particularly pretty or outgoing, like those glamorous girls who always seemed to be the center of attention. She considered herself bookish and plain, with her small body, glasses, and mousy brown hair done up in long twin braids. She felt average in just about every way. And now here she was, eating a meal with her Match, the kind of handsome boy she'd usually only talk to in books. The thought left her feeling shy, nervous, giddy, and embarrassed all at once. With a start she realised that she was staring at him and she quickly looked down at her food, fumbling with her fork as she began eating. [@karamonnom]
