For centuries this land and its immediate surroundings have been plagued by an infectious darkness carried by demonic shadows we call, "Cimmerians". No one seems to recall their origin, and all our folklore is written in such ancient texts that even our brightest professors and scholars are still working to decipher the mysteries behind their abhorrent existence. All we know is that war ravages Valeriya and will continue on its devastating course unless we do something to extinguish it. That's where the Reckoning comes into play. Every citizen is required to participate in the ritual on the eve of their eighteenth birthday. Choose your goblet, draw from the fountain, and wait for the water to show you your destiny. You've got four possible outcomes: [color=9e0b0f]Mercenary[/color], [color=004b80]Harbinger[/color], [color=1a7b30]Practitioner[/color], or [color=aba000]Familiar[/color]. Luckily, the Mystics give you a week to brood over your recommendation versus your heart's desire before everyone declares their Estuary at the Gathering. Although some consider this life and land a death sentence no matter what path is chosen, there are far graver consequences. Valeriya has lost countless souls to the madness and poison brought on by the Cimmerians' dark magic. Over the years we have learned a handful of strategies and skills to combat their evil, but the victory still eludes even our finest and most seasoned Valeriyans. The members of this Estuary usually, but not always, include those who are: brave, bold, rational, loyal, just, and occasionally broody or temperamental. ͼH A R B I N G E R Sͽ [color=003471]Harbingers[/color] are masters of stealth, acrobatics, reconnaissance, and ranged attacks. These creatures come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and species. Some are magical, whereas some are typical to the natural environment of Valeriya. Regardless, Veins are paired and bond quickly to their caretakers. Each Estuary contains a variety of Veins which aid them on and off of the battlefield. Each Vein uses a particular set of skills to aid its partner throughout their journey together. Magical abilities are not uncommon in a Vein and they can be temporarily shared by its partner under certain circumstances. Their arrival is usually preceded by a formation of large, dark clouds or heavy, pungent fog. These demons cloak themselves in shadows but can take on any form of their choosing. Some extremely gifted and higher ranked Cimmerians can temporarily take on a realistic human or animal form, although to an experienced eye the Cimmerian's true form is detectable. Their touch can bring on all sorts of incurable diseases. The longevity and fatality depends mainly on a person's will and access to medical attention.
