Never mind all this. [s]Alrighty, this looks like a nice RP to feed my appetite for alternative history, so here goes: I would like to claim the Soviet Union. I used the alternative nation sheet, but there are few differences between this Soviet Union and the actual other than leadership, politics and to some extent economics. +Nation Name: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics +Leader: Leon Trotsky +Allegiance: Communist International (Comintern) +Government: Socialist Federal Republic +History: After the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, Leon Trotsky managed to sideline Stalin and took control of the Soviet Union. His policies, re-adopting the principle of democratic centralism and invigorating discussion within the Party, lead the Soviet Union to adopt a modified version of the New Economic Policy or NEP over the following decades, which managed to avoid the famines of the 1930s but by sacrificing much faster industrial growth. Under the principle of the Permanent Revolution, the USSR has begun extensive promotion of communism around the world, especially in China where the disciples of Mao even now fight against the Kuomintang. +Culture: The Soviet Union is very naturally rooted in Russian culture, however, under Trotsky's administration some concessions have been made, namely releasing documents in both languages in the other republics and only passively promoting assimilation of other cultures. The Soviet Union thus tries to preserve its reputation as a multinational union to its citizens and the world. +Military: As a result of Trotsky's economic policies, the Soviet Union has a significantly higher population (to throw at the enemy with nothing but rifles) and more stable food supply, but was unprepared for the Nazi onslaught in early 1941, only possessing minimal armor and resources oriented towards war. However it began marshaling its resources and promoting war manufacturing much earlier, as early as 1937, and its T-34 tanks are much more effective than rival German tanks, though they tend to be overwhelmed with sheer numbers. Also, however, due to the lack of the Purge, the USSR possesses much more skilled officers (if unprepared for the realities of modern war) which to some degree counteracts its lack of industrialization. Now, the Soviet Union is adopting its age-old tactic: scorch the earth and retreat while taking as many casualties as you can.[/s]
