I don't know about scientific accuracy as a whole (mostly I'm going to be making up a lot of technical mumbo jumbo) but with regards to the lasers, they would be invisible in space but that is only one type of energy weapon. Other weapons that use different kinds of energy propelled in a beam could be visible even in space.

Also with regard to the Valis, my character's a  cyborg does that mean these energy creatures could possess him? One more thing, how long have the Valis been in contact with humans?
