Vellia just lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. Tal was dead. There was no chance for him to survive the Ylissean army. And she felt it was her fault. She'd barely met the guy, but he was a companion, the first companion she'd had in a long time. She didn't want to eat at the moment, though she knew she should. She finally decided to climb out of the bed, and when she left the room to head downstairs, she nearly toppled over the thief. It bothered her that the girl refused to disclose her name. She had learned everyone's names, except the thief's, from just a few of the other Shepherds, not willing to talk to some. Like that girl Lumara. She looked nice enough, but Vel quickly found that her appearance was in stark contrast to her personality. Vellia shuddered. The door to Ambra's room was open, and Ambra was simply sitting there eating. Vellia figured she might check in on the other girl. "Hey, Ambra?" she began. "I just figured I'd ask and, um . . . see if you were alright. I know you've been doing a lot for the rest of the company, especially the . . . uh . . . injured ones."
