[@Darkmatter]
So I was wondering about nukes, or more precisely nuclear deterrence. Currently nine nations--the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea — possess approximately 16,300 nuclear weapons. in total. Russia and the United States have reduced their inventories but still account for more than 93% of all operational nuclear warheads. Moreover China, France, Russia, the UK and the USA— are either deploying new nuclear weapon delivery systems or have announced programs to do so. Even if this RP takes place after a massive nuclear disarmament initiative the issue would be in how quickly the aforementioned nations could rearm themselves--to that end I had a suggestion: Perhaps it's the delivery system, not the munition itself that's become outmoded. This would also handily explain why the existing nations aren't simply turtling up and launching endless missile barrages at each other's capitals. If advanced anti-ICBM technology was at the forefront of 'WW3' then resorting to a 'boots on the ground' campaign would make more sense.
