[@Loony] That's a pretty astute observation!  I know I've said that Spinel and Chromite are both from that other thing I made, and I also consciously made them both spinels.  I had a based on nothing (besides that I thought it was a cool idea) headcanon that spinels were like the footsoldiers of gem society.
