if we're talking about reasoning-- maybe a demon with a contract is more powerful than a demon without one. something about mortal energy, and their connection to whatever hell isn't? could get really complicated on that front, though. it might be better to figure out what exactly makes a given "demon" powerful, before peeling open that can of worms?
