Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you are new to role playing, you might want to check out the Free section because you don't have to worry to much about your writing. You don't really need to if you are an experienced writer in general. 
This RP is closer to Advanced than Free, hence the tags. But again, those categories won't matter much if you are an experienced writer. 
In the guild, there a stage before an RP called an Interest Check, which is what this is. It isn't really an RP yet. This isn't the same for all RPs, but I don't really look at CSes until the actual RP thread. So, if you wanted to make a CS and post it now you can, but you can also wait and post it in the OOC thread later. (I believe OOC/IC is explained in the FAQ?)(Plus waiting until other characters are posted might help you if you have trouble. Not saying you will!)
I am going to be accepting old characters, but that does not mean I don't want new ones. There is no need to have an original or unused class, some of those I think I personally elaborated on the characters class title. Please feel free to use whatever type of class you want!
I have no qualms about you joining because you're new, but please make sure you can keep up with the writing! If you looked at the old thread, did you skim the IC? Those are what you need to match up with! Not saying you cant, just saying that that is the kind of posting expectations you can have for myself and your fellow RPers will bringing to the table.
