He realizes the world sucks huge donkey nuts and will always let him down in the end, but that doesn't stop him from fighting for what he believes in - not because he actually feels he could make a difference, but rather, because it's the right thing to do. He's just exchanged his knightly shining armor for a full suit of sarcasm and snark. He tries to be the best person he can be, doing his best to be as close to that concept of a 'knight' as he can - though he's basically given up on his own personal honor or morality. Bend the rules to save them, and all. If he has to commit all the world's evils just to save it, he'll do it in a heartbeat. Bio: Gareth is a member of the Special Tasks Group - nicknamed the 'Blackguard' due to the public image being that of a royal guard, as well as the fact they wore black armor as a uniform - who was born to a relatively ordinary family, all things considered. Sure his mother was always at home because of some incurable illness and his father was often out doing his job to 'keep the world safe' as an STG agent, but Gareth was always able to balance out his free time with his responsibilities and live life like a normal kid. Plus, every now and then, his father would come back home, ask Garry how he was doing, hang out, and maybe give him a lecture about life decisions and truth and honor and other knightly sounding stuff whenever he heard he got in trouble, which was somewhat frequently. Then he'd leave and it'd go back to the same old routine. However, this life stage of his didn't last too long, since his mother's condition deteriorated and eventually caused her to pass from this world. He was around 7 at the time. So with nowhere to go and nobody else really to live with - grandparents gone or in some old folk's home, aunts and uncles who never really kept in touch, cousins who were busy at college, etc - he was taken to live with his father, alongside the rest of the Special Tasks Group members and other military types. He'd often have to pull his own weight, help around the place, but life was fine, he supposed. He even made friends with some of the soldiers, as well as their visiting families. Eventually, the fact that there was a kid running around a military facility just became exactly that: a fact of life. He'd often spend his time training and exercising alongside the soldiers, even participating in those combat simulations of theirs. Just a little while before he turned 10, an officer approached him. There was one thing that could mean, and it wasn't good. Gareth knew the words before they left the man's mouth, but there wasn't any crying. Just a single, solemn word: "Where?" Cut to age 11, and you'd see Gary over here training his ass off for actual military duty. This wasn't for entertainment like it used to be, this preteen had actually pulled some strings and got quite the early entrance. What he lacked in strength or speed, he had in wits. A particularly memorable event was after a rather long, arduous hike through the hot, summer wilderness, the trainees were tasked with getting to the end of an obstacle course. First person to succeed got a ride back to base with the CO, everyone else had to hike back. And so while others were focused on climbing a rock wall and whatnot, Gareth just walked around it. Hey, he got to the end first, didn't he? Well he got a good reprimand, just like the other times he would end up pulling stunts like that, but in the end, they had to admit he was right since he did fulfill the terms of the agreement. Half a year later, Gary was chosen to become an STG member, but first he'd have to go through the training. It didn't take too long, another half a year, but finally he was ready for active duty as a member of Special Tasks. His first mission was a simple assassination of a guy who couldn't keep his mouth shut. Though, upon his arrival in the, as Obi-Wan once put it, 'wretched hive of scum and villainy', something seemed to click. He remembered what his father always told him, all those talks about justice and doing the right thing, as he saw thugs kick the helpless while they were down. He had to help these kinds of people, it's what his dad would've wanted, right? He would've wanted him to do his best to protect people, to save everyone. And so began a downward spiral of a man who believed in his ideals, and by them was driven into despair. Weakness: Stuff that puts out fires - lack of oxygen, water, fire extinguishers, etc. - disables his ability Sure he's immune to heat and fire, but he isn't immune to the concussive force or shrapnel of an explosion Because of the destructive power of fire, he rarely delves into the truly powerful applications of his pyrokinesis due to potential collateral damage His idealistic sense of justice and desire to become a hero is both exploitable, and can put him at odds with his allies and superiors His actions could be called suicidal for more reasons than one. Incidentally, none of them are because he's actually suicidal. Other: For justice and for glory, he will cast down the scales of a world long past morality; he will create a world where a cry for help will surely be answered, always. --- If the Bio is a bit vague as to what happens after age 12-13, that's intentional. Don't wanna play all my cards now, do I? ...And I added that bit at the end of the CS because I wanted a poetic-ass thing like Jas's CS
