Androids and machines have either a lot of limitations or no limitations. Androids and some robotic servants for example can and will have true intelligence and can develop thoughts, emotions, and even dreams if given the time to do so. Some will even seek out implants to simulate the five primary human senses. 

There are however many machines that have shackled A.I. to keep them from going nuts, such as in Turrets, assassin droids, certain types of servant robots, ect.

Design varies among the factions and civilizations. Some are almost lifelike, others are tankish and brutal. No real limit here.

Robots are kickass.
