This is due to their insignia being an x (if you take out all the diamonds in the original Homeworld insignia it would leave an x behind, and being that the diamonds in it represent each diamond's respective authority it was sort of their symbol of rejecting their rule), and also because they're all x-members (with the exception of Rut who was quite literally born into the nOPE) of their original alliances.
