Being one of the two runner-ups, we don't really feel it is appropriate for us to give an opinion on what should happen to that particular contest's results (beyond that which has been done).

But we do have a suggestion... Both schools and universities have programs/tools that can be used for identifying plagiarism at their disposal. Maybe such could be acquired to test entries?
