Hmm… sounds kind of like Al is a little brother figure? In which case Rui can be infinitely nicer to Al (seeing zhe has no family to speak of and it was the one thing zhe used to, and still kind of, wants).

Interestingly Rui thinks Al found a better way to cope with being alone, since zhe is still “alone,” figuratively.
