On a slightly related topic, I find the whole faster sword thing misleading, there is no such thing as a faster weapon than another kind. At least among swords. I mean, which is going to hit you first? The long-sword or the knife that has to cover more distance? (assuming equal tier speeds of course)  

A good example is the Roman army, in which they primarily used short swords during their early conquesting years, while the latter days of the declining empire saw them start using longer bladed weapons when they ended up having to defend more often than not. Type and length of weapon has an interesting effect on the warriors mindset. It is also a nice way to reveal a bit about a characters personality through his weapon. 

(Such as spear wielders often being cocky and into allot of showmanship)    

(just some things to keep in mind when picking a sword or whatever. Fury with bladed Cestus would be scary)
