Welcome to the Guild, Platanus! It is by good fortune that you've found your way here, as all of what you've described can be found within these walls, in one form or another. Couldn't go past it! It's nice to see another realist here, too. The peeps here are friendly, open to random shoulder-taps if ever you find yourself in a tight spot or in need of advice. I'm confident you'll find great fellowship here, too. :)
Well, let us say that it was not by total chance that I found my way here, I peeked at similar forums as well and decided to start where it seemed more pleasant at first glance, hope I did not make a mis... wait, is that really the lobby I should pass through or a chamber of... (voice drops in disbelief and terror) (humour, in case anyone wondered)
Big props to you for wanting to pursue these types of literary exercises to sharpen your language skills. It's hard to believe you're still 'practising' English because your Intro is among the best I've seen yet.
Well I am not exactly practising English, but writing in English. I have a few battles on that ground.

Vocabulary: I am not good at memorizing, I can not even memorize formulas, which is why I try to get faster at deriving them. So - no matter in which language - I learn how to deal with phrases because being able to varry your sentences at will helps you get away with a great of blanks in vocabulary. Do not know the word? Just say it differently. But it also leads to me experimenting, meaning every now and then I get a hunch what a word means, how and when it is to be used and feel how I need it, so I try it in a text, conversation etc. Should other people not react allergically, I know all is fine within some acceptable error and if not, somebody will let me know how it is done. [/*]
And as you might have already guessed, it leads to me making over complicated and super long sentences which does not always end well, not even in German.[/*]
I am a natural scientist by nature and having done great deal of maths and theoretical physics has gotten me to express myself in even more precise ways. So I would use adverbs more often and in greater number than most people do. For example it would have killed me to leave out the »most« before »people« in the last phrase, because I know for a fact that some will use equally as much as I do or even more. Of course not all my characters have inherited (or will inherit) the trade from me, so a character might possess sloppy logic but the narrative part would still suffer under my dogma for precision. [/*]
I have been writing German a lot the past years and have been living and studying in Berlin, so my English punctuation - which was not really good to begin with - suffers severely under the German impact/influence. [/*]
I try reading as much as I get free time for but firstly it is in several languages and secondly most of what I have been reading lately were either scientific material or political and social crticism, which all have quite direct and minimalistic language and little room for blooming imagination.[/*]

Welcome to the site. You shouldn't have any problems finding some good roleplay.

Hello and welcome! We got some good stuff going on here.
I am open to suggestions. Should you know any good ones still looking for players, please do let me know. I have an exam tomorrow and one on Monday, but after that a good amount of time until the next ones in March.
