But a fireball, barring any sort of gimmicky magical effect, is basically the same as getting roasted by a flamethrower, whilst an ice spike is probably comparable to getting a knife thrown or stabbed.

If his armor makes him resistant to bullets and blades (assuming that it's some sort of adaptive armor, cause bullets and blades require different types of defensives, last time I remembered), I'd think that it'd be pretty useful against magical attacks that mimick physical things (e.g rock throw/fire ball/ice spike).

Of course, KoL confirmations would probably settle this.
