They're sly people. Lord knows what Lin and Tenzin have to come up with but you know they're dropping the kids off with Korra or Asami or someone and hitting the town cause ya know, they're still young and all. Adult things.

Lin would not welcome Grandma Toph but I do think once this "first chapter" is done, we will wanna branch out and deal with Lin's family as well as Mako and Bolin's. I don't want to go the same route as the show did but we'll think of something good.
