[@Mr Allen J]That's a pretty extreme case of Atavism, but it works for this universe.  I was planning on saying that Atavism was the second most common variety of mutation, after physical enhancements, and was often linked to them.
Also, my guy could be said to have a form of atavism, as many animals can eat wood and leaves for nutrition.
