Caroline stood in place with her hands behind her back. She shifted her eyes around hoping she wouldn't be noticed by the commander, even though she had bright blue clothing that could be easily noticed in the crowd. She also tried to avoid the thought of talking to anyone near her, thinking that she would attract even more attention and be called on. She tried to use the method her parents told her, breathing through her nose and out her mouth. Caroline repeatedly did this and started to relax, but the movement made her bangs slowly inch to her eyes. After a few rounds of inhaling and exhaling, her bangs were blocking her sight. This was a bit embarrassing to her, and slowly reached up to fix it but the commander turned their head straight at her. Caroline noticed and quickly put her hand down, then decided to stare at the ground so the sea of faces don't worry her any more. She was quiet enough to hear the pounding in her chest, and tried to do the breathing method while the time passed by. With her good hearing she could make out a few conversations in the crowd but the one that got her attention the most was something about this being the 'biggest challenge we might face'. Caroline thought about it for a moment, then smirked to herself. I don't mind risking my life for my family, she thought with more confidence than she had before.
