Assuming that Moon Rider was going to stay put, she could possibly intercept her from another alley.

Not only that but she also noted a bunch of players showing up that weren't outlaws. Either they were outlaws who were just looking for targets, or they may be Moon Rider's allies. Whoever they were Smitten Kitten had to act fast so she ran up the opposite side of the street. She would try to catch Moon Rider when the black king wasn't paying attention to her. That was a small window, but that just meant Smitten Kitten needed to be near by at all times.
