I find it a helluva lot easier to read when there's something distinguishing my words. I purposely got lighter colors, since most of the site's theme was dark gray or even darker grey, but I guess they ain't so good. I didn't get any dark colors, after all. A light-ish brown and a light-ish red. It's easier on my eyes because seeing just a great big hunk of white text, always white text, hurts my eyes, and it's easier for me to read the burlywood and salmon coloring. 

Even though it takes forever to format.

Sorry duck. It wasn't my intention to make your eyes hurt. I just found it pleasing and it made my own eyes hurt less.
