Mages, and sympathizers, fought for freedom resulting in lose of many lives until freedom was finally gained. Up until this point, the scientist were only learning about how mages were created, which is to encase a human in magik springs (planet's concentrated energy) and held unless you were of a key bloodline held a 1 out of 50 survival chance. Aka, you were born into slavery, you would in the end become a mage no matter what. Freedom was gained afterwards but rights didn't come until after the 21st cen. in a similar fashion as African Americans and women gained legal rights. By the 22nd cen. Massive advancements in tech, modern/scifi mix, had progressed thanks to the appearance of mages. Sadly a lot of damage had already been done from deforestation, wildlife extinction that only a few known species remained and those alive were caged away in preserves (fancy zoos) or genetically spliced together (show displays, Jacer's and his brother's-name still pending- pet was an otter with wings, but crippled so it's got steampunk type prosthetics). Planetary resources have been depleted to almost been used up which is affecting the world, until they discovered a solution: it turns out the planet, to renew its resources, needs memories from living beings. To gain this, she uses both the life and death cycle as well as her connection to mages, which is how they are able to use magik. Mages are exposed to the life 'blood' of the planet and end up infected with a symbiotic parasite made of pure energy. It alters any type of energy into a source the mage can use, becoming an unlimited resource, though mage's body can only conduct so much before it starts to tear it apart. Like overloading a circuit which is the mage in this case. When the mage finally dies, all those memories, experiences, and strength the parasite gained while attached to the mage helps the planet be able to renew her resources a bit faster. It's because the magik was used and strengthen through direct experience as opposed to hitching a ride, see humans in this world all have a little bit of magik but need to bath in the lifeblood to gain that parasite. Some don't survive it. Space travel, limited, is possible, and a nearby planet, Wyvian, like Mars but more Earth version, has been terraformed for habitations. All soldiers are converted as mages at usually 18, as too young and you won't survive, mainly since before puberty the body is still changing and that alters the parasite since it needs a mature host (usually) to survive. At least that was the original belief. New power source has been created, thanks to a research lab on Wyvian and medical care, food care, and more is enhanced as well. Though yet to determine levels. Transport is a mixed between modern and hover cars, mainly as the cities are very scifi based with high tech and latest conveniences available but the country side are more like our modern era with a few high tech alterations. In the late end of the 22nd cen. around 2203 SED (Standard Ebium-planet name- Date) was the Undyne invaded. They came fast and hard, knocking out communications, hitting military bases (most the mages are required to house in key approved areas as unlike civilians they can be dangerous unintentionally. Especially new recruits.), taking out massive capital cities, finally hunting down, enslaving, or killing remaining humans that resist. They ended up using the same tactics as they have on multiple other planets by infecting any captured or spotted humans with a meta virus that alters organics into cybernetics over a period of months to a year depending. There's no cure yet found, but the process can be delayed with a mage's own energy filtering out the virus in regard treatments daily. Those infected and fallen to the virus' influence are called the Enslaved, their own purpose is to serve their masters as soldiers or labor force. The Undyne attack force is a mix bag since most of the soldiers are made from enslaved races so the only distinct feature is the metallic and cybernetic look of their old forms. They like a lot like alien mechas. I'm still working on Jacer's history, but I do have his abilities semi worked out in my head. People/Soldiers Government There are four main world powers within Ebium, each from a continent within the planet and cultural similarities to our own. However, since Jacer is from Mercisana that is the nationality that will be focused on in his sheet. The other three are listed due to reference: Brythean- A republic government known as the Bresian Empire. Influence from Britain culture and mannerism, alrighty less technology setting than most which creates a more modern England setting. Casathea- A People's Republic (dictatorship) ruled by a monarch called the Yeoshea Kingdom. The cultural influence taken are from Africa and Brazil with low technology and Magik resources. Japageos- Asian influence and highest technology level, its government has a ruling empress who presides over a set number of councillors. This ensures a mix between dictatorship and republic government style. Mercisana- A Democracy to a fair degree where there’s a president, followed by two different councils where laws, national affairs, and much more are settled. Currently the government is in shambles as thanks to the Undyne invasion though they have been slowly trying to organize for over a decade.
