As I said, this situation is different. They're mostly empty space because the magnetic field repels them, but they're condensed to the point that they physically could not be closer. Because of this, there's a heavy magnetic field that would repel anything that comes close on the atomic scale. I don't see how photons could get through the electron clouds.
