They can infuse their songs with magic, and the effects can be subtle or glaringly obvious. Well, obvious to other sonomancers. Who am I? My name is Kara, and I'm a sonomancer. I'm also the founder of the Academy for the Musically Gifted, a school for sonomancers to learn to use their gifts and learn how to hide them from normal humans. Not everyone is tolerant of magic. Just look at what happened to the shifters. The humans found out about them, and now they're all gone; retreated so deep into an animal form that they've forgotten how to shift. We have no such escape. It's my job to ensure that young sonomancers survive in this magic-hating world. Graduates of the AMG are confident and ready to take on the world and make their mark. Highly trained sonomancers can create music out of nowhere, while sonomancers with less training must have instruments or sound systems nearby to broadcast the music through. Sonomancers usually specialize in one aspect of sonomancy; Empathic, Combat, Healing, Influence, and Calming are the most well known, although there are others. Empathic sonomancers can use their music to subtly manipulate emotions. They can also feel other people's emotions. Empathic sonomancers are usually manipulative in some way, but can also be incredibly caring. Combat sonomancers can use their music to attack and defend. They can send people into battle rages. Combat sonomancers are usually calm, serious people who keep their heads in crises, although they can work themselves into a towering rage. Healing sonomancers can use their music to heal wounds and diseases physical and mental. They can sense when someone is hurt. Healing sonomancers are usually calm and compassionate, although they often become too emotionally invested in their patients. Influence sonomancers can use their music to sway others to their side. They can also subtly influence future events, up to a point. Influence sonomancers are usually silver-tongued people with ambiguous morals, but they can be passionate defenders of their cause. Calming sonomancers can use their music to cool hot heads and give aid to the depressed. They can also dissipate nightmares. Calming sonomancers are usually level-headed, kind people, although they can become tired of working only for others and not themselves.
