I actually do both traditional drawings and digital drawings. The one I just posted is a traditional drawing. As for digital drawings, I use the oldest Wacom Intuos model (yes, the VERY FIRST generation model- which is grey- handed down to me by my father lol). Wacom tablets are generally expensive, but the smaller they are, the slightly cheaper they get. The most effective tablets honestly come from most Wacom models, but all I really need is a decently sized tablet to get drawing. And just because the tablet is newer does not mean your drawing ability changes intensely, actually. From what I know, the smoothness of drawings mostly depend on what software you're using. For example, if you're using SAI, changing up some Brush settings and applying a really high Pen Stabilizer makes it super easy to make you look like a pretty good Pixiv artist. A software that is specifically known to smoothen out the pen might fit your deal. I don't know how you draw, so I'm honestly just sort of spitting out random info. I might know more about your situation if you explain a bit further.
Basically sketching first on a blank paper with a pencil before tracing it with a ballpen to try to make the contrasting process include all the intended lines. Afterwards, I take a picture of my work, adjust the contrast with GIMP so that it's just two sharp tones of white and black on the image, erase artifacts, turn the white into transparency and fill it in with colors. I could try stroking using paths, but it's a long-ass process that I'm not even sure if it would yield a desirable result for me.
