[@WilsonTurner]
Perhaps I should explain how my mana link systems work. And as a note, they were indeed mentioned in my app for anyone who wants to look back at them. Mana link ships are very small ships that are pretty much entirely mana batteries. Most of them are kept near Arcadia and other high importance planets of the Roa'marii. While a single ship would be fairly weak and not able to do much of anything at all, they are capable of linking together to form massive mana-link arrays that boost the power of the beam weapon exponentially, thus the name of the ship. I believe one was shown in action back in the Andromeda at one point, but due to slight differences here the method of their use is slightly different. The basic concept however is quite simple. A massive beam attack is charged up, and as it is ready to fire, a portal is opened in front of the array to the desired target location. As Duck said, portals and similar things require an opening be made on both sides. Thus the charge up of power in the Searonese ships to open said portal. Now, these portals are highly unstable as there is no real source of power save the ships in the fleet themselves. They would only be open for a short time, just enough to fire a blast through before they close. With a longer charge time, the portals can potentially be opened for longer, allowing ships to travel through. The size of the fleet opening it and the lack of time however make this impossible. The weapon is not instantaneous nor is it able to be fired remotely. The weapon can in fact only be fired once reliably due to incredibly long cool down periods on the array itself. Batteries need to be recharged as it were. While I can definitely see this being somewhat OP in a smaller scale RP, it seemed to me that it fits into this one well enough. Were the Searonese ships focusing on a battle effort, they would never be able to charge a portal for this attack, but as they have been forced to stop and are spending time negotiating, they are able to put in place the necessary precautions for a known hostile new species. I apologize if I did not make the exact specifications of this clear in my App, but it was mentioned to be possible. Of course, whether or not it gets used depends completely on the Hocklyn response to the Searonese. I assure you, I am more interested in the story than having my characters be unkillable. Should you choose war, know that I have these weapons, but they will not be end all be all superweapons. I have plans for either decision you make, and I don't care which one you choose. Should I be forced to fire the array, it will not destroy your fleet, and as you've stated the Hocklyns will likely win, although with more losses than anticipated. As a final note, I never use Cause Magic as an explanation for things. If there are any points you want clarification on, I will gladly give it. All Roa'marii have decently high magic potential, and this is harnessed for things such as the mana-link blast. The power for such a thing is taken from the Roa'marii themselves, as with many of the Roa'marii weapons.
//Sorry for the long post, just trying to clear up some things and not start an argument or anything.//
