You don't know his level of skill yet nor his real goals and intentions, you can call him a coward but he's not one, he made a retreat because of the drugs his attackers were taking were wearing off, if he gotten into a true fight without them he'd stand his ground, guns or no guns, he was trained and self trained himself to fight Saya and take her down, even if he needs to kill a couple side people to get his goals finished, he's not only getting revenge for himself.
