[i] I'm thinking that they will be like vampires yes, maybe some surprising things to make them unique to our story; perhaps even something like a wendigo? Might be interesting to explore. My thought would be that the people would be turning into one of these "vampire" like monsters by being bitten AND they can also turn into their own monster because of their characteristic flaws of sort.
