When his boss was killed in a turf war with a rival family, Ichiro had had enough. He convinced one of his closest friends to help orchestrate a complicated plan to fake his own death. After a minor mishap, Ichiro's friend was killed. To honor the sacrifice, young Ichiro vowed to give up crime for the rest of his life and to live as a good man, taking on his current name. Soon after he became deeply involved with Buddhism and found his hope once more. With a new zeal for life, he began school to learn the ancient techniques of Japanese body art, then painting, and finally moving on to calligraphy. Keeping his face hidden from the public eye wasn't easy, but he managed it. After his successes, he decided that kendo would be the perfect martial accompaniment to his Buddhist practices. He became renowned in kendo competitions and amassed a large following of students. After some time, he passed the dojo onto his most skilled and senior student, feeling like his time in Japan was coming to a close. Mr. Takenaka moved to Whittier a couple years ago, wanting to get away from the bustle of the daily world. He felt that society itself had closed him off from true enlightenment, being a devout Buddhist. After amassing a fortune from his line of tattoos, paintings, customized calligraphy, and a world-renowned kendo dojo Ichiro felt he had accomplished enough to honor the memory of his friend. He sold off his various parlors as well as his galleries of valuable paintings and calligraphy, some being his own.
