Well, IIRC [@Aktoria] said that ships don't necessarly need to be cannon later on. But I personally think it would be a good idea if you'd stick with cannon ones to start and once you get some resource points you can start manifacturing those from other universes/own designs.

Also, maybe another idea. Experts used for Hyperdrive construction of mega-ships. As I think that the bigger the ship, the better the hyperdrive should be. Again these are just ideas and I honestly wouldn't mind if my captured prof. ends up being useless.
