Although Jack in his surprise fumbled the front flip mid flip due to the shark's raw strength, the moment the pad and the shark made contact, it destroyed his balance, but landing into the water, he was going to be okay for the moment.

Now that the Megaladeus was going to be temporarily unarmed, it was their chance to strike.
