Being gay isn't an easy feat for any human being and John is the prime example of that, too. He keeps it a secret because he's afraid of what people might think and say. Plus also afraid of being bullied.

Just as disrespectful and rebellious as they come, Megan had no choice but to transfer school as she caused enough trouble at her old one. Her parents had to move from their home and jobs, not very happen about the whole idea but she doesn't care as she tries to take down another school.

Needing another competitive priority in her life, she choose the Glee Club for that reason but she secretly loves to sing, as well. She'll never admit that she loves being in the Glee Club out loud to anyone though if someone says it to her face, she'll deny it.
