Earmuffs only make sense if you have modern or at least cold war era avoinics where you barely use your five senses and instead rely on the devices. Elves are the complete opposite. Their smallest fighters lack absolutely any avionics and they only have a radio and a gunsight. It works because they're elves with enhanced senses including something similar to natural gyroscopes so they can navigate without devices. But if you have them wear earmuffs it dulls one of their senses. Granted, warzones would be noisy as hell anyways so elven soldiers would just need to get used to things. Still, jets may give an unique flair to my nations. I can reason away why I am using jets while the rest of the world does not. Also I sure don't wish to be OP. Having some advantage in aircraft tech, sure. Mithril is nice in that. But stomping my opposition in the air, hell no! Anyways, what's OP about automatic rifles? It's called machinegun and they're older than almost any other weapon used in Ww2. Same way guided rockets are actually kind of old. Reliable guided rockets, though? it'd be different. Maybe if they are similar to my flying bombs, huge so there's enough space for the equipment.
Well that's just my two cents. Plz don't shoot the messenger >.<" As for your troops, would some sort of "hearing training" be possible for them to get accustomed to the sounds of war with the pilots going through another "phase" of it to help them ignore the sounds of aircraft? As for AR's, they use hard hitting bullets a rifle would use, delivering them at the speed of a machine gun and as portable as an SMG. Basically a nice little package of lead spewing death. Again, just my reasoning behind it. The rockets part, I'm sure someone will find a way for them to all magically find their targets in one way or another.
