I want the talents to have limitations, and I will give feedback in that regard as necessary. Basically, I do not want it so magic can solve everything or that the characters are necessarily badasses. I don't have any problem whatsoever with a novice mage of the sort you are outlining. I don't expect the characters to conform to a power level, but I will decide whether or not a character can do too much on their own, which makes for a boring sort of RP. The enemy is dangerous and adaptable, so I'm hoping to encourage creative adaptation to the problems.
