My character isn't the dramatic cursing type, he's also not very old, if your character's father was incredibly evil though he could have cursed your character with blood-thirst as a way of spiting my character for suggesting he go easier on him or something similar. 

As for a sun-god, you have (HeySeuss?) character who's a fire god or something, might be the closest you can get.
