Oh and far as abilities go I guess it depends on how the demons are like.  Are they just like humans but really strong, Do they have a plathora of character specific abilities, etc, etc?  
My suggestion would be to make something akin to a crown/mantle for each level which Goes to levels strongest demon.   Just an idea though
