There seems to be no indication that this will change in the coming years to come.
The Vatannian Reunification The two nations of Vatannia and Galvia has always been influencial to one another. When the old Polmanian senate began expanding from the Reiner river, they turned north towards the early Galvian tribes. When the Polmanian empire began to collapse 200 years later, the Galvian proto-kingdom swept down south and sacked the northern Imperials. The medieval age brought more bloodshed as the neighbors fought for fiefs. The Galvian war of ascession was made worst with the medling of Northern Vatannian-supported usurpers. The inquisitions of the southern Vatannian kingdoms during the late medieval ages often spilled onto Galvia, dragging them into religious unrest. However the start of the great alliance would begin in 1775. In January, the Colvian revolution was underway. The Kingdom of Colvia was one of the wealthy merchants states of the northern Vatannian region. However a class struggle has been secretly brewing in the kingdom. Colvia, along with its neighboring merchant kingdoms, had began its industrial revolution. The elites were the only people with the capital necessary to build the factories needed to industrialize the nation. New opportunities arised as the nation entered the industrial age. However the nation's working class was quickly marginalized. Worker's unions were disbanded, often with extreme force. Protest were swept aside by the army. The prosperous merchant state became more and more troubled. Galvia decided to intervene by providing arms for the workers. The riots became armed revolts that the Colvian army had more and more difficulties quelling. During November of 1975, the workers marched towards the royal palace. There they forced the ruling monarch, King Francesco Allemani III, to step down. The army tried to retake the palace but was repelled by the armed rebels who had occupied the building. After two hours of extensive fighting, the King abdicated. Cilerno and Annatolia, the other merchant states neighboring Colvia, grew discontent with thier class differences too. Cilerno managed to oust its monarchs peacefully while Annatolia's King, King Alfredo Milano, was brutally executed. The three states formed a union to protect themselves as they reestablished their governments. Meanwhile, the southern kingdom of Napoles and the Papal states were experiencing their own revolutions too. The citizens of Napoles wanted to join the northern union. King Leonardo Telmo, wanted to distance himself from the growing republican nationalism to the north. The nation was set on the same course as its northern neighbors. In the papal states, the Pope condemned the northern rebels and the new government they were forming. The divine right to rule was broken. A civil war then erupted in Napoles. By 1778, the northern provinces of Napoles were in armed conflict of the Royal Army. The northern states, now reformed with their own constitutions, decide to help the rebels and Galvia provided them arms and additional rations. The Royal Army held its ground a year before they were constantly pushed back by the rebels. By 1779, the rebels were at the doorsteps of the capital. The rebel forces pushed through the royal gaurds of the city and captured the Napolean Royal Palace. King Michelangelo Stressi was exiled after being captured. The call of nationalism soon found itself in the papal states. However the pope was able to make a comprise with the nationalist. The took the city of Polma, the ancient capital of the old Polmanian empire, as his own holdings and the nationalist kept the rest of the nation. However the pope would still require those territories to pay taxes to the church in return. In 1790, an official proclamation was made that the states of Colvia, Cilerno, Annatolia, Napoles and the former papal states were merged into one single entity, the new kingdom of Vatannia. Named after the old Polmerian name for the region, the new constitutional kingdom was formed. Far from the visions of the early revolutionaries though, Vatannia's parliament quickly went to aristocrats and noble families. The people of Vatannia were too enthusiastic about the reunification to concern themselves with the new government. The king of Vatannia was chosen to be King Georgino Malvechi, the direct cousin of the former king of Colvia. The Rosvo-Galvian War While spirits were high in Vatannia, Galvia was suffering from a demoralizing war with it's neighbor, the Kingdom of Rosvo. The Kingdom of Rosvo had entered into hostilities with Galvia in 1787. Galvia declared war with the intent to capture its ore rich territories. Rosvo won a decisive victory against Galvia and stopped the Galvian invasion in 1788. The tables were turned and now the Rosvonian army was marching south towards Galvia. In desperate need of aid, Galvia turned towards its southern neighbor. In 1793, Vatannia signed an alliance with Galvia. By the spring of 1794, the combined might of Vatannians and Galvians overwhelmed the invading Rosvonians. By summer the next year, the routed their enemy in tactical victory. In 1795 Vatannian and Galvian forces captured the capital of Rosvo, the city of Moscovi, and exiled its leader. The rest of the country was quickly annexed by Galvia. The Dual Monarchy Garnering prestige from their combined victory, the parliaments of both Vatannia and Galvia considered an alliance. By March of 1800, Prime Minister Andrello Daverna met with his counterpart in Galvia, David Venalli. There a framework for an alliance was written as a draft and would be presented to the kings of both nations.
