But changing his semblance changes his personality, or at least gives a very strange semblance for someone who has no greater interest in customizing his equipment beyond whatever is available to him. If I do limit his R-Types I do intend to make his R-Types much harder to take down that "Just shoot them".

Then let this moment be a big turning point for Ebon. I can have Gren take his shield and throw it into the lake. He'll lose The Kingdom and all his R-types, forcing him to start back from zero. Then Ebon would either need to wise up and ask for help from his teams, or he can undergo his own start of darkness and recreate himself into a villain.
